Videoblog 3 – IT services Update

We are fitting in some time to work on our email system upgrade – simulating on virtual servers a change from exchange 2003 to exchange 2007. We are also hoping to find time to experiment with an evaluation of Sharepoint.

Mark and Abdul talk about the progress on a system for offering some of our old laptops to staff. Mark has been working on the technical preparation of the laptops and Abdul has been working on the web application form for staff to apply for an old laptop.

Jim talks about his work on configuring a wireless system to allow guest/student laptop access to the Internet.

  1. Good news about the laptops.
This is a really exciting development – not only do we get news about IT services, but also we get to know the IT services staff. We particularly appreciated Abdul’s humour!
We would suggest that communication would be more effective if people speak more slowly and more loudly – for us old timers!

  2. The sound is not too bad once uploaded from the phone.

  3. Great way to see the human face of IT Systems.
Maybe application to get a laptop could be done using this format – 30 second video stating what use the laptop would be use for. I am sure we can arrange support for this. Or maybe the student feedback video booth could be used?

  4. This is v fun…you seem very natural onscreen! Lots of potential for use with students i think.

Sound quality is pretty poor tho – lots of fuzz in background..?

  5. The sound quality improves in videoblog 4 when we use a Samsung D600 to record the video. This phone also allowed us to pause so that we could get ready for each scene of the video, which was very useful.
